learning about and working on the technical side of theatre

This course covered everything from lights to sound to projection. I got hands-on experience hanging and focusing lights for theatre and dance shows, mixing audio on Qlab, and learning about the development of projection in the theatre industry. This course also provided me with a lot of insight into the tour industry which has sparked my interest. Before this class, I did not see myself working on the technical side of theatre but after this course, I’m interested in lighting, sound, and projection design and implementation. It also has helped me become more well-rounded as a theatre artist now being able to navigate and understand technical equipment. This will help me incorporate technical elements in my art more effectively now that I understand its limitations and abilities.

This course was a comprehensive lesson on everything from hand sewing, patterning, machine sewing, and more. It provided me with the basic skills to construct garments and repair garments. In this course, I patterned and sewed a custom apron and also hemmed and repaired costume pieces from the shows being put on by the department at the time. It provided me with the skills, training, and practice to work in a costume shop or on a wardrobe crew.

Loyola University Chicago 2021 Dance Concert - "Nevertheless She Persisted"
I worked on the Wardrobe Crew for the 2021 dance concert. This opportunity gave me insight and experience as to what running a show looks like from the technical side. It grew my respect for the technical side of theatre and those who work in that part of the industry. Additionally, this experience was a great way to connect with peers in the program during my first year, providing me with friendships that have lasted to this day.
